SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- City Councilor Theresa Stehly has a double-barreled set of proposals she's going to introduce for first reading at night's Council meeting.
RESCIND RAMP DEAL
"In light of new information that has come forth concerning the guarantors in the Legacy Development multi use parking ramp project, we are proposing an ordinance that will repeal the funding of the multi-use parking project until the air has been cleared," Stehly says. "Our City attorney Danny Brown has stated that the bonds would not be sold until later this spring."
PUBLIC VOTE ON COUNCILOR WINNING PERCENTAGE
"An ordinance that will allow the citizens to vote on whether city council members should be elected with the standard plurality form of 34% or a new majority threshold of 50 +1% (Legislature, county commission, governor, and school board all use the plurality form.)," Stehly says. "This would take the form as a charter amendment. The Majority form will trigger more run-offs and our City Clerk Tom Greco has stated that this will cost an extra $80,000.(approximately)."
The Council meets at 7 p.m. tonight at the Carnegie Town Hall.
