SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Indiana Avenue, between 8th and 10th Streets, reopened today two weeks ahead of the construction schedule.
Assistant City Engineer Jeff DesLauriers says six water main breaks over the last ten years drove the project.
DesLauriers says the city knew that replacing the water main would disrupt the street, tear out a lot of Indiana so engineers looked at the project as a whole. He says the city decided to improve all of the infrastructure on that stretch of street.
He says the early finish is attributable to a good contracting team, favorable weather, full street closure and financial incentives.
Because the project finished ahead of schedule the contractor, Asphalt Surfacing of Sioux Falls, earned an incentive of $30,000.
