SIOUX FALLS.S.D. (KELO.com) -- Don't expect a lot of Christmas cheer at the special meeting of the Sioux Falls City Council Tuesday evening.
There is only one thing on the agenda, and it's a controversial biggie: the proposed 5-year golf course management contract with Landscapes Unlimited. Councilors have had the holidays to think about it because the issue was deferred from last week.
Landscapes, based in Lincoln, Nebraska, would take over from Dakota Golf Management which has run the city's municipal courses for some 23 years, and that's left a bad taste in the mouths of some people. Some say the selection process was not open and transparent enough. Councilor Marshall Selberg, who was on the selection committee, says such claims are just not true.
Another related concern is the purchase of all the golf equipment that will be needed if Landscapes gets the contract, and how much it will all cost. Critics take exception to the city's estimates, claiming they are much too low.
The Council meeting starts at 7 p.m. at Carnegie Hall.
