UPDATE: The City Council has deferred this issue until next Tuesdsay, Dec. 26.

UPDATE - As of 10:02 pm, the City Council continues to debate the Landscapes Unlimited issue.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) - The Sioux Falls City Council met on Tuesday night to a packed house. The majority of those in attendance were there to witness the vote on accepting Landscapes Unlimited to run the city's three golf courses.

That agenda item didn't sit well with many in the crowd. Several advocates of the Sioux Falls homeless community were upset that city council would put such effort into a vote on golf when they say so many in Sioux Falls are in need.

"It's unfortunate that we have people sitting back here, for a golf course," Sierra Broussard said. "I don't care about the golf courses. I dont care about putting flowers in the boulevard. We have real crime here. The rich people that are wanting this golf course can't relate to what we do on the streets."

Four different advocates for the homeless addressed the council.

"Crime is rising every day here. We have thugs and gang members. It's a reality," Broussard said. "Just because it doesn't hit rich sections of town doesn't mean it's not going to ever hit."

Broussard also said that she and other people are on the streets every night, fighting crime in the city.

"This is what we do every day. We don't drink the finest wines. We don't look out of our backyards onto a golf course. We're out here fighting crime every day," Broussard said. "So all these people who are packing the house here, maybe they need to open their doors to the homeless shelter people. They need to come out on the streets and try and fight this crime."
