SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Sioux Falls Fire Rescue has sent three trucks and ten firefighters to help in the battle against the Legion Lake Fire in the Black Hills.
"Something we do here in South Dakota. We help each other out." says department spokesman Steve Fessler. He says the firefighters will be used wherever and however they are needed.
"They could be helping out doing some back burns. They could be helping out just putting out hot spots."
Fessler says Sioux Falls helps battle fires around the state and the region, but this is one of the biggest contingents sent to a single fire.
He says all Sioux Falls firefighters are trained in the fighting of wild land fires, so they'll know what they're doing out there.
Fire departments from all over are helping against Legion Lake, which grew dramatically overnight Tuesday. Water tanker planes have also been dropping water from the air.
