Not so much the snow but the wind

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Yesterday's snow event went well for the Sioux Falls Street Department.

Except for one small problem that's all too common here on the Great Plains.

"The wind," according to the street department's chief snow fighter, Galynn Huber. "The wind was brutal for us last night."

Huber said they had to take the chemical treatment crews off the streets from about 7 p.m. to midnight. The wind was disrupting the application on the roads.

And while we kid about solar powered snow removal in this part of the country, there is some truth to it.

"The sun is our pal today," Huber said. "Even with cool temperatures, that sun beating onto that road with the chemicals is really helping to cut that."

Huber said he hoped to have all the residential streets treated by this evening. Huber was a guest on It's Your Business with Bill Zortman this morning.
