SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Citi has announced that it will build a new state-of-the-art headquarters building in Sioux Falls.
Spokesman Mark Rogers tells Kelo.com News that it will be a "substantial" project, although its too early to talk about cost or exact location.
He says Citi is very excited and that the project shows the company's ongoing commitment to Sioux Falls.
Mayor Mike Huether, who had a long career at Citi is thrilled. He got a personal call from the president.
"He said, Mike, we're going to invest in a brand new headquarters here, a state of the art technology, I just went: you betcha!" Huether also wondered about the cost of the project and its exact location, but was told it's just too early for those details.
Governor Dennis Daugaard thanks Citi.
"Citi has been an important corporate citizen in South Dakota for more than three decades and this announcement means they will be in Sioux Falls for decades to come. “
The new headquarters is expected to be open sometime in 2019.
Citi is one of Sioux Falls largest employers.
Then known as Citibank, the company moved its credit card operations to Sioux Falls in 1981.
