SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Eight Sioux Falls Police Officers are off their probationary period and now fully part of the force.

Chief Matt Burns welcomed them yesterday into the "thin blue line."

"Those public servants who take an oath of a police officer, who are trained in lethal force and have the powers of arrest, must have a high level of training and vetting to pursue this career and our mission of policing a democratic society," Burns said.

The new officers replaced their old badges that had "SFPD" in big letters on them to their new badges with their unique identification number.

The new officers must successfully complete a 15 month probationary training.

The new officers are: Richard Smith, Ben Fiegen, Seth Meier, Rachel Mattson, Erin Mears, Nick Eilers, Andy Curry, and Zach Hagberg.
