SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- A recent data study by the Associated Press concluded that employment in electronic shopping related businesses has tripled nationally since 2007.
South Dakota's results are not nearly as dramatic.
Those same statistics show South Dakota has gained about 86 positions from jobs created by online warehouses and retailing.
Minnehaha County showed an increase from 13 such jobs in 2007 to 61 jobs in 2016. Lincoln County had 12 jobs related to online warehouses or online retailing and Union County 13 jobs.
Nationally, the AP reported from 2007 to 2016, nationwide electronic shopping employment had tripled: from 75,930 to 230,815 jobs. The same figure for general warehousing was more modest, but still a large gain: from 557,368 to 813,433 jobs.
The source for the data was the Bureau of Labor Statistics Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages.
