SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Just how good is a background check for a Lyft driver?
The New York Times reports that suspected New York City truck terrorist Sayfullo Saipov passed an Uber driver background test in New Jersey.
In light of the attack and Lyft--an Uber-like service--coming to Sioux Falls--we've asked Mayor Mike Huether, Councilor Christine Erickson and Police Chief Matt Burn whether they think Lyft's background check gives citizens enough protection.
Saipov's Uber background check failed to indicate--or such information was ignored--that Saipov had serious vehicle violations in Missouri and failed to to appear for his court appearance there. KELO.com News asked the city officials the following: "What assurances can you give the citizens of Sioux Falls that: 1. The Lyft background check is tougher than the Uber background check process. 2. That the Lyft background check is at least as comprehensive as the City's background check of taxi cab drivers."
If or when they respond, we'll let you know.
