SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether and City Councilor Christine Erickson took a historic car ride at noon on Tuesday.
They were the first passengers in the city of the ride-hailing service Lyft. Their driver was Greg LaFolette, a local advocate for Lyft, instrumental in bringing the service to town. Erickson has been a major voice on Council for transportation network services.
Lyft announced that it was launching statewide in South Dakota on Tuesday, after getting the required licensing. Lyft beats its better known rival, Uber, to the Mount Rushmore State.
The first Lyft ride in city history took Huether and Erickson from City Hall to the Washington Pavilion.
Customers use the Lyft App to get in touch with a Lyft-approved driver and wait for their personal cabbie to show up to take them where they want to go.
