SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) Sioux Falls City Councilor Greg Neitzert has applied to be a driver for the ride-hailing service, Lyft, when it finally gets to town.
Purely educational.
"So I have the confidence to know exactly how it operates...this is an educational thing. I will probably do it once and that will be it."
After he has his driving experience with some lucky passenger, Neitzert says he will report back to City Council. He drives a Ford Fusion, nothing fancy.
Lyft is expected to start operations in South Dakota's largest city as soon as the company can recruit enough drivers.
The company has now been issued a transportation network company license through the City's licensing office. It has already been issued a state sales tax license.
Lyft operates in more than 300 cities nationwide, completing more than 28 million rides per month. Riders must download the Lyft mobile app to their smartphone to connect with Lyft drivers.
Lyft will beat its better known rival, Uber, into Sioux Falls.
