PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) The Executive Director of the abortion rights group NARAL Pro-Choice South Dakota says she was raped in Pierre last March by a man she knew who worked at the Capitol.
Samantha Spawn has decided against trying to take the man to court.
"I don't see what the benefit would be. It would be difficult to get a conviction. Even if I did get a conviction, what happens?, other than me being re-traumatized."
Spawn's startling accusation comes amid a flood of similar stories from women nationwide in the wake of the revelations about Hollywood Mogul Harvey Weinstein.
Spawn is concerned about what the reaction will be when she returns to do her lobbying job.
"It's scary. I have not been contacted by any of my colleagues in Pierre yet regarding this story, so their silence scares me even more."
She gives few details about what happened, but she does say that the alleged rapist no longer works at the Capitol and no longer lives in South Dakota.
