SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) While Uber is still driving in circles about whether to operate in the Sioux Falls area, the other popular ride-hailing service, Lyft, is full speed ahead.
A news conference on Monday announced that Sioux Falls and 15 surrounding communities are finalizing plans to be the first plugged in to the popular ride-sharing service.
Applications are being taken now for drivers in Sioux Falls, Harrisburg, Renner, Valley Springs, Brandon, Tea, Hartford, Crooks, and Lyons. Drivers are also wanted as far away as Irene, Wakonda, and Hudson.
The service is also rolling out additional markets in Minnesota and Iowa, including Pipestone, Holland, Sioux Center, and Boyden
Among the pieces of red tape that needed to be cleared was the taxation on rides going from one town to another. Taxes for such rides will be collected in the destination city.
Lyft already operates in 300 cities in 49 states. The Southeast South Dakota venture will give them a presence in all 50 states plus Washington, D.C.
As of last month, Uber still hadn't decided about Sioux Falls.
Lyft's slogan is "A Ride Whenever You Need One."
