ST. PAUL, MN. (KELO.com) Xcel Energy is sending at least 20 crews to Florida to help restore the power knocked out by Hurricane Irma.

Approximately 70 Xcel workers from Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin will be helping the restoration effort in the Tampa Bay area. Seven employees are from South Dakota.

Some of the emergency crews left from a main dispatch center in Twin City on Sunday.

An Xcel spokesman says the company is prepared to respond swiftly to restore service whether it's in "our own backyard" or in other parts of the country.

Millions of people are without power in Florida.
