GALVESTON COUNTY, TX. (KELO.com) David and Debbie Franssens of Sioux Falls are spending 16-hour days serving hundreds of meals to the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

"We've walked up to them to offer them meals and they literally just started crying. They are just so thankful for everything." says Debbie in a phone interview from Galveston County, Texas, with Kelo.com News.

Husband Dave says that the people can't thank them enough, and can't believe that the Franssens came all the way from South Dakota to help. The retired couple is working out of a Red Cross food truck. They say it's just been amazing the number of volunteers from all over who have been helping out in the recovery.

The Franssens got involved with the Red Cross last year and helped out in a weather disaster near Wilimington, North Carolina. Now it's Texas, when they could be kicked back enjoying retirement.

"We've always helped people all our life", explains Dave, "...that's always been our passion." Debbie adds that "they are very long days, but they're worth it."

Dave and Debbie are coming up on their 41st wedding anniversary.

The Red Cross of South Dakota and North Dakota has sent many volunteers to Texas and is training more. Now Hurricane Irma may mean Florida will become part of the travel plans.
