SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) The start of class in Sioux Falls Public Schools is just around the corner, but they're still 12 bus drivers short.
Manager of School Bus, Inc., Jim Shafer says it's an annual challenge that seems to get a little worse each year. The driving jobs are part time, but Shafer has also heard other complaints.
"Somebody will say, well I can hardly handle three kids in my own car, much less 70 kids behind me in a big school bus."
But Jim says you can do it, the pay's good, and they'll train you, so please give them a call at 605-334-6644
So, as of Thursday, they were 12 short of a total workforce of 120 drivers. Shafer says even if they fill the 12 slots, those new hires won't be ready when school starts because of all the papework involved. Don't worry, all the bus routes will still be covered. Full time staffers, including Jim himself, will get behind the wheel, if they have to.
Classes start September 5 for some 24,000 students, South Dakota's largest school district.
