Buckle up in the back seat?

UNDATED (KELO AM) – We buckle up in the front seat, and make sure the kids are safely settled into their car seats, but do adults buckle up while in the back seat?

A new survey says that when adults are in the back seat, seat belt use drops.  The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety says four out of five surveyed adults admit not using seat belts in the back seat while on short trips or in a taxi.

There is a misconception dating back to the 1960's and '70's that the back seat was safer.  Back then, that was the case, but designs have changed that with advanced safety designs.

Sixty-six per cent of those between the ages of 35 - 54 DO buckle up, compared to just over three quarters of those over the age of 55, and 73 per cent of those between 18 and 54.

Women and those who attended college were more likely to buckle up.

Best advice, buckle up, front seat or back.  It could be a life saver.
