PIERRE, SD (KELO AM) - The South Dakota Highway Patrol is focusing on seat belt use this summer. Most recent vehicle fatalities have been due people not belted in.
Highway Patrol Superintendent Colonel Craig Price says it is pretty simple, and only takes four seconds to buckle your seatbelt.
Price says you can only control so much behind the wheel as mechanical problems and other drivers may not be as attentive as you are.
Price says state troopers are watching for drivers and passengers that are not belted in.
Price says they are also stepping up enforcement of distracted driving laws.
