Senator Thune wants more info on Trump transgender decision

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) Two-thirds of South Dakota's Congressional Delegation supports President Trump's decision to reinstate the ban on transgender people in the military, but John Thune wants to hear more first.

"“I’ve always believed that our military leaders know more about readiness and combat requirements than anyone else, which is why I’m interested in learning more about the Department of Defense’s findings on this topic and the information on which the president based his decision.” says Thune in a statement released by his Washington office Thursday afternoon.

U.S. Senator Mike Rounds supports Trump's decision, apparently already convinced that the evidence shows transgender service members will impact military readiness. He also has concerns about the cost.

".. while the DoD is conducting its study on the impact of incurring medical costs for transgender individuals, among other aspects of the policy change, several outside studies have shown that it would come at a significant cost to taxpayers. I believe that defense funding should be dedicated to the defense of our country, so, in that regard, I support the executive decision.” says Rounds in a statement.

U.S. Representative Kristi Noem also says she supports the President's executive decision.
