Sioux Falls, S.D. (KELO AM) - Anyone with a cell phone is probably noticing an increase in calls from random numbers, both from local exchanges and out-of-state numbers that amount to either hangups or an unwanted marketing message.
Jessie Schmdit with the Better Business Bureau in Sioux Falls used her time on KELO Radio's It's Your Business on Friday to give cell phone users good news and bad news on the matter. The bad news was those calls aren't going anywhere anytime soon, once the automated systems latch on to them there's no removing the number. She added that once her daughter got her first cell phone a year and a half ago, scammers began calling the newly activated number within hours.
Now for the good news, the easiest way to avoid the unwanted calls is to ignore them completely. "The longer you don't answer; your phone number goes deeper and deeper [into the archives]. It may rise again and it may not, you just never know," said Schmidt. She went on to say if you ignore a call from an unknown number and the caller does not leave a message, then you'll know there is nothing good that would have come from answering that call.
