SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) Residential housing construction is booming in growing Sioux Falls.
City Permits Chief Butch Warrington tells KELO Radio's It's Your Business Show with Bill Zortman that residential permits were up at the end of June from the same period last year.
"We're about 30 over what we were last year at this time for new houses, but the big difference is the number of townhome units. We're about 50 units higher there."
Warrington says that there were 429 permits for single-family homes issued in the first half of 2017, and 201 townhome units, ahead of last year's pace.
Despite the uptick in residential, total construction permits were down through June of this year from the same six-month period in 2016, so the city is still falling behind last year's record of $407,582,624.
Sioux Falls had three record years in a row of construction in 2014, 2015, and 2016, and is hoping for a fourth, Warrington says there's plenty in the pipeline, so we'll see as the months roll by.
