Sioux Falls, S.D. (KELO AM) - Photos previously kept under wraps will soon be released to the public in South Dakota for the right price. No we aren't talking about those pictures you thought you deleted from Facebook after college, but close.
South Dakota will begin making mug shots available starting this weekend. Delivery method will vary depending on county, but in Sioux Falls you'll only be able to get them at the courthouse for a fee of $8 cash or $10 by credit or debit card. In Minehaha County the photos can be printed or emailed.
Other counties will allow for requests of mug shots through an automated system, including Pennington County. Minehaha may follow suit depending on the volume of requests received. Nothing in the new law requires agencies to produce booking photos older than six months from the date the photo was taken.
Traditionally, July 1st is the day new state laws passed in Pierre take effect, unless the measure is passed with an emergency clause.
