SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO-AM) -- Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether has announced that he will not be a candidate for the United States House of Representatives to fill the opening in November, 2018.
“I certainly appreciate the encouragement from folks all across the great state of South Dakota to pursue this vital role for our state and nation. However, I remain focused on working to be the best Mayor I can for Sioux Falls and absolutely relish this opportunity to serve”, says Huether.
Huether’s second term as Mayor of Sioux Falls ends May 15, 2018.
So, no run for the U.S. House, but the political door is still wide open for a possible run for Governor in 2018 or for the U.S. Senate two years from now.
"Cindy and I are thinking about them both. We think about them daily. But I think we have some time before we ultimately decide on both of those races." Huether tells KELO.COM News.
Huether says that people understand how much he loves public service, so he thinks they know he wants to continue "this public service gig."
Huether, last December, announced he was leaving the Democratic Party to register as an Independent. The flood of speculation is that he would do better as an Independent in a state wide race in heavily Republican South Dakota.
