SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO-AM) -- The National Weather Services warns of an expected increasing severe weather threat today.
The NWS says numerous severe storms will likely develop this afternoon and evening along and east of the James River. The main risks are large hail up to baseball size and damaging winds to 70 mph.
Isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out with some of these storms.
A cold front that is sweeping from the north will run into a warm, humid air mass later today, which could set off severe weather across much of the area. The NWS's Todd Heitkamp in Sioux Falls says we could see a mix of nasty weather. Heitkamp says the threats will change as the system moves east. He adds it is a good day to keep an eye on the sky.
The severe weather threat will taper off later in the evening.
