WASHINGTON, D.C. (KELO-AM) -- Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) continued his opposition to Obamacare on the floor of the Senate yesterday, saying the Affordable Care Act is "not sustainable" for South Dakotans.
“In my home state of South Dakota, premiums increased by 124 percent – or $3,588 over five years," Thune said. "That’s money that many South Dakota families had to take from other priorities – like saving for retirement or investing in their children’s education.”
Thune was bleak about the ACA's prospects.
“This law is not working," he said. “It has never worked. And it shows absolutely no sign that it’s going to work in the future."
U.S. News reports that Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says there will be a Senate vote on a replacement health care bill "in the near future" but not if there are not enough votes to pass a measure.
