Sioux Falls, S.D. (KELO AM) - Cynthia Mickelson lead wire-to-wire as Tuesday's school board election ballots were hand-counted by volunteers at the district's instructional planning center.
Randy Dobberpuhl finished in second, and put up the only real challenge to Mickelson as the ballots were counted. Dimitrios Gliarmis and Carol Robinson both accumulated fewer than 140 of the four thousand ballots cast.
Voter turnout for the election was just a hair over four percent. District officials had estimated around five percent turnout after a high rate of absentee ballots were cast.
RESULTS:
Cynthia Mickelson - 2,278 (52.5%)
Randy Dobberpuhl - 1,810 (41.8%)
Carol Robinson - 139 (3.2%)
Dimitrios Gliarmis - 108 (2.5)
Total ballots cast - 4.335 (4.06%)
The low voter turnout is right in the wheelhouse for recent stand-alone school board elections. Including today, three of the previous 4 have been under five percent, with 2015 being the lone exception due to the school start date question being added to the ballot.
