SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) The PGA Champions Tour has signed a 5-year deal with Sanford Health to bring a tour stop to Sioux Falls, beginning in 2018.
That's what a source tells KWSN Sports Radio in Sioux Falls, that Sanford is taking over sponsorship of the 3M Championship, a Champions Tour event that has been in the Twin Cities area since 2001. The Champions Tour used to be the Senior Tour. These are some of the best and biggest named golfers in the world, now over the age of 50.
Golfing great Jack Nicklaus will join a host of VIPs at the Minnehaha Country Club on Thursday for the big announcement. The President of the Champions Tour will be there, as will the head of Sanford Health, Kelby Krabbenhoft.
The source also tells KWSN Sports Radio that part of the PGA Champions Tour event coming to Sioux Falls COULD be "Greats of Golf Challenge," which has been part of the 3M tourney for years. Legends like Nicklaus, Gary Player, Lee Trevino, and the late Arnold Palmer, have all played in this event.
A major pro golf event will have a big economic impact on already booming Sioux Falls.
