SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) All outdoor city pools in Sioux Falls officially opened for summer business Friday afternoon, including the splash pad at the indoor Midco Aquatic Center.
Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation this summer will replace playground equipment at four city parks - At Bakker, Kuehn, Meldrum, and the lower structure at Tuthill Park.
The new playgrounds will have the newest industry play features and meet all the current industry safety and accessibility standards, including poured-in-place rubber surfacing.
Construction will begin at Kuehn Park and Meldrum Park on Monday, June 5.
Free city bus rides for kids - the Freedom Pass program - began for another summer on Friday.
The program allows students - 6 to 18 - to ride SAM fixed-route buses by showing the bus driver their current year school ID or SAM-issued Freedom Pass when boarding.
It will be a cool summer in Sioux Falls, but an extra hot one in Lennox. The city's 60-year-old public pool has finally been closed, probably for good. Temporary patches and chewing gum just won't work any more to keep the leaky pool open.
