SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - It's been a busy day for Sioux Falls Fire Rescue... just after 11 this Tuesday morning, when workers noticed a house fire broke out at a home under construction on the east side, keeping crews busy, battling blaze in the floor. Battalion Chief Matt McAreavey says they got it under control within the first twenty minutes. There were no injuries reported. The home had moderate damage...
Not long after, at 11:45 another call came in for a fire at a two story eight apartment complex near downtown...at 14th and Dakota. After a short detour, crews found flames visible on the exterior of a rear entryway and stairs to a second floor apartment. Battalion Chief Jim Powers said adjoining units were cleared of occupants and that fire was brought under control within 10 minutes of arrival. The entry and stairs had moderate fire damage, but no damage was reported to the residential area of the building.
The Air National Guard Fire Department provided mutual aid. Cause of both fires is under investigation.
