SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO-AM) - Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer. Some fire up the grill, while others pay homage and give thier respects to those Americans who served our country, and paid the ultimate price for freedom. Whatever you're looking for, it's all in the area.
The Sioux Falls Veterans Council is hosting the Sioux Falls Municipal Band, one of the oldest and most prestigious bands in the nation, for a Memorial Day concert and program at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center at 10:00 a.m. with the service following at 10:30.
Services are also planned in other area communities, at Legion Halls, and churches.
Starting on Memorial Day, the Sioux Falls trolley will start rolling for another year. If you're looking to ride the trolley, plant yourself by the red "Trolley Stop" signs located all throughout downtown. This year the trolley service will operate 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Labor day marks the end of the trolley's 2017 ride.
The record weekend for travel is being met by safety measures. AAA South Dakota is offering 'tipsy tow' in Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Mitchell, and Yankton. The service is free to anyone, by calling 1-800-AAA-HELP. (1-800-222-4357) you are not required to be a member. Marilyn Buskohl says to call the dispatcher, ask for a tipsy tow, and they'll take you and your car home safely.
