SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - A fast and furious storm, packing winds up to 80 miles per hour, caused much damage Monday morning in Armour, South Dakota.

Mike Gillispie with the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls says some buildings were damaged, trees uprooted and a semi was blown off the road, between 8 and 8:30 a.m.

KSFY-TV News Reporter Ericka Leigh rushed to Armour to get a first hand look at the damage.

"One business owner told me that he came to his store this morning, opened up shop, went back downtown to grab a bite to eat, and noticed the sky got very, very dark and saw the wind pick up and decided it was probably a good idea to come back and check on his business and that's when he had found that basically his entire structure had been destroyed,"

Another business owner told Leigh that "it happened fast. It was here and then it was over."

School was canceled in Armour because the downed power lines knocked out power to the schools.

Gillispie says there was also a report of a 63 mile an hour wind gust reported near Parkston.

The storms then dropped half to three-quarters of an inch of rain in Sioux Falls.  The official amount at the National Weather Service is .55

Gillispie says most of the afternoon should be partly sunny with highs in the low 80's but there's a chance for more thunderstorms firing up tonight.

Forecast for the week is wet and eventually cooler.
