Police say a 30-year-old Sioux Falls woman is accused of leaving her 1-year-old girl in a running vehicle for over an hour while she was intoxicated.
Officer Sam Clemens says Constance Jean Fondern wandered into a a female friend's apartment in northwest Sioux Falls, while intoxicated, around 9:30 Thursday night. She left the apartment shortly after that.
Around 10:30, a second female tenant heard a baby crying in an unlocked car left running in the apartment parking lot. When she investigated, she found the girl who need a change of diapers. The woman brought the child into her apartment, changed the infant's diaper and called police.
Clemens say police estimate that the child was alone in the car for at least an hour.
After police eventually found Fondern and arrested her for child abuse, sliming; she spit on an officer, resisting arrest and possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.
The child was unharmed and turned over to relatives.
