SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The offer of a quick dollar seemed to easy to resist but Sioux Falls police say two unwitting men were pawns in a scheme to cash fraudulent checks at Sioux Falls banks.
Officer Sam Clemens says the men would cash the checks, bring the money to their newly found employers and get a cut of the money.
One of the men realized something was fishy and balked to one of the men who picked the pair up. The suspect displayed a handgun and told the victim that there were more banks to go to.
At the next bank, that same victim walked across the street to a restaurant and tried hiding in the bathroom. The suspect went in and got him to continue the heist.
The men were eventually released unharmed after hours of cashing fake checks and one of them reported the incident to police.
The investigation continues but there have not been any arrests.
