SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Regional President and CEO of Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center, Dr. David Kapaska will retire at the end of June.
Chief Administrative Officer David Flicek has been named President and CEO of Avera McKennan. Flicek will assume his duties beginning July 1.
Dr. Kapaska has served at Regional President and CEO of Avera McKennan since October 2010 and is the 16th administrator in the 100-year history of Avera McKennan
Dr. Kapaska is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, and earned his master's of business administration degree from Southern Illinois University, and medical degree from the University of Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines, Iowa. He served as a pilot in the Air Force before embarking on a career in business and medicine.
Dr. Kapaska most recently was instrumental in developing a vision for the planned Avera on Louise Health Campus on 69th Street and Louise Avenue.
David Flicek has led Avera Medical Group since 2008. He previously served as Senior Vice President of Clinic Operations Avera McKennan. He has been with Avera for 20 years and previously worked at Allina Health Systems in the Twin Cities. He holds a bachelor of science degree in Health Administration from the University of South Dakota
