SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The annual South Dakota Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is this weekend at Ramkota Exhibit Hall in Sioux Falls.
Organizer John Mogen says eight bands will be inducted along with ballrooms, radio stations and DJ Jon Michaels of KELO Radio.
Mogen says the history of Rock and Rock in South Dakota is rich and vibrant. He says not every garage band got out of the garage but many did eventually make it to the stage. He says they filled ballrooms across the upper Midwest making the performances not only a musical event but a social event as well.
Ceremonies start Friday night with an artist's jam session featuring several inductees from 8 to 10 at the Ramkota. It's free but donations are appreciated at the door.
Bands to be inducted include The Fabulous Unknowns, The Playboys, Sad Lad and the Mourners, the '&0s Flippers, Precious Cargo, an all-girl band from Rapid City called Wild Cherry, The Unbelievable Uglies and Wakefield from Sioux Falls.
Wakefield, the Uglies, '70's Flipper, Wild Cherry and Precious Cargo will perform Saturday.
Tickets for Saturday night's induction are $35 in advance and $40 at the door. Tickets are available online at sdrrma.com or at Lewis Drug Southgate.
