SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - A Minneapolis man is charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly fired a handgun at an occupied car near 18th Street and Center Avenue.
Captain Loren McManus says no one was injured and 28-year-old Sherman Elisha Woods was arrested after a K-9 officer was deployed because Woods refused police instructions while sitting on the front porch of a house on Center Avenue.
It started when the victims thought they recognized Woods as an acquaintance driving a car near 37th and Minnesota. When they pulled up next to Woods they realized they were mistaken but there were words between them and the victims claim Woods displayed a handgun.
The victims called 911 and followed Woods. When they got to 18th and Center Woods stopped, got out of his car and fired one round in the victim's car.
When police arrived Woods did not obey their instructions and sat on the front porch of a nearby home. That's when the K-9 was sent in and Woods was subdued.
He's charged with two counts of aggravated assault, reckless discharge of a firearm, shooting at an occupied vehicle and not having a valid permit for the handgun.
