SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Once legislators finish business Monday, on the last day of the main run, interim study committees will almost immediately begin meeting.

One of the first will be the Government Operations and Audit Committee.  Vice Chair, Representative Jean Hunhoff of Yankton says they'll hear reports on public safety and drug treatment programs.

Hunhoff says when the Public Safety Act was adopted, three departments were involved:  Corrections, Unified Judicial System and Social Services.  She says funds went to all three agencies but in reality they work together.  She says legislators are trying to track the dollars, with outcomes, but the reports are confusing.

Hunhoff says many of the programs overlap.  She says legislators are trying to lay out a format that they can understand where the dollars have gone, what programs are working.

She says some are tracking the dollars while others are following the people's paths in the programs. There's another oversight committee for the adult Public Safety Act.  She says it looks at the participant's outcomes, how many complete the program and those that don't finish,

The committee will also hear reports on admission policies and overtime at the Human Services Center in Yankton and the Developmental Center in Redfield.
