PIERRE, SD (KELO.COM) The cost of attending one of South Dakota's four technical institutes is going up about $150 a year.
The tech schools are struggling with zero increases in state funding, at a time when insurance and other costs are going up.
The State Board of Education has approved a tuition increase of $5 per credit hour for students. The entire report is attached to this story as a PDF file.
The State Board estimates that the higher fees will bring in about $885,000 in additional revenue, but the tech schools could still face a shortfall in the coming fiscal year of well over $500,000.
The schools, Lake Area Tech in Watertown, MT in Mitchell, Western Dakota Tech in Rapid City, and Southeast Tech in Sioux Falls, have all been asked to tighten their belts to try to achieve more savings.
