SIOUX FALLS,SD (KELO-AM) - Perfect weather greeted thousands of revelers downtown this afternoon as the 38th Annual St. Patrick's Day parade made it's way up Phillips Avenue. Whether it was a "family affair" celebrating Irish heritage, music groups to highlight the festive culture, groups promoting the wearing of the green or businesses supporting the events, participation in the decades long event made it a special day! Over 100 units were expected to take part.
Events included the tradition of shamrock painting at 9th and Phillips, a Fun Run along the route. Here's a link to some fun facts on the annual festivities https://wallethub.com/blog/st-patricks-day-facts/10960/
A national survey conducted by the WalletHub group, listed Sioux Falls as 19th in the country for the best cities to celebrate the good deeds of the man seen to be the Irish patron Saint.
The survey took a look at weather for the day, the Irish population and Saint Patrick’s Day traditions. Sioux Falls boasts two Irish pubs, even an Irish store downtown.
Larry (O') Fuller served as the Grand Marshal for the parade, which started back in 1979 at the urging of local broadcaster and businesswoman Sylvia Henkin.
