SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.COM) We get a bit of a sneak peak at what Sioux Falls Mayor Huether will talk about in his annual State of the City Address, in a letter he's sent to City Council.
The Mayor's speech is set for Tuesday, March 28 at 2;30 p.m. at Cargengie Town Hall.
The Mayor writes to the Councilors that he will "connect the dots" between a number of economic wins, but also lower than expected revenue growth.
"We value the challenges and are exicted for opportunities, too," writes Huether, "We expect to face more police calls, mostly associated with drug use, lower than hoped for sales tax growth, and the tough talk and scrutiny that comes with unlimited wants but limited resources."
The city ended 2016 with $42.2 million in General Fund operating reserves. City officials used only $1.4 million in reserves. Huether says that's a credit to the city's prudent budgetary practices.
In the annual address, Huether will cast his vision for where Sioux Falls should go in 2017 and beyond. Huether leaves office in 2018..
