SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Before you go to bed Saturday night, set your clocks ahead one hour to return to Daylight Saving Time.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue also says this is a good time to check the batteries in smoke detectors and check your carbon monoxide detectors.
Fire Inspector Tyler Tjeerdsma says most of the new detectors and batteries last longer than year. He says to press the test button on each detector to make sure they are in working order.
Tjeerdsma does recommend pulling down smoke detectors and check the date on the back. He says to change out smoke detectors every ten years. He says there should be smoke detectors in every bedroom and one on each floor.
Fire Rescue advises having a carbon monoxide detector on every floor and one outside of every bedroom. Tjeerdsma says carbon monoxide will put people into a deeper sleep so it's important to have one as close to you as possible.
He says if you need assistance installing smoke detectors, recommendations on where to instal them, feel free to call Fire Rescue for help, free of charge.
