Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) The City of Sioux Falls is inching ever closer to a major $20 million redesign of the busy E. 26th Street/Interstate 229 intersection.
Shannon Ausen with city engineering says the extensive work will mean a much better flow of traffic from 26th Street on and off the Interstate. There will be a overpass built over the railroad tracks at Southeastern Avenue.
"A lot of times our drivers will have to wait for the rail for trains to cross," says Ausen, "so this railroad overpass will take our trains completely out of our daily commute and travel."
A project bonus will be a new park - Rotary Park West, Ausen called it - on the west side of 26, since the overpass work will take away the entrance to Rotary Park on the east.
This project is still years away, but the city wants the public to know what has been going on. There will be an open house at John Harris Elementary School Monday, May 23, starting at 6:15 p.m.
