SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Another funding measure for the Animal Disease Research and Diagnostic Lab at South Dakota State University passed a Senate committee in Pierre yesterday.
South Dakota Farm Bureau lobbyist Mike Held says Senators will consider the measure early next week, the last five days of session's main run.
Held says the legislation provides the bond payment for the ag lab. He says his group supports the bill and two others that constitute the total package. He says that includes the supply of the funding in Senate Bill 35.
Held says the funding for the ADRDL comes from money that was to go toward property tax relief. He says the source of the funding is the sales tax increase last year which would have been dedicated to about 13 cents an acre in relief.
He says that money will be split between the lab and for other fund projects down the road.
Held says the $3.5 million in ag fees in Senate Bill 172 is no longer part of the discussion.
