SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The government accountability board bill, a response to the ethic's commission that was part of the repealed Initiated Measure 22, is working it's way through both chambers in Pierre.

Representative Kent Peterson of Salem says the part that legislators like most about the measure is that it's independent.  Peterson says having retired judges on the board who have previously been in situations facing similar issues is a plus too.  He says their presence will help ensure a fair process.

Peterson says the board is not the same as the ethic's commission in IM 22 but he thinks it will have the same effect as to what it will be able to accomplish.

Senator Ryan Maher of Isabel says the accountability bill came through the Senate State Affairs late last night and will probably be on the floor Monday.

Maher says he expects the bill to pass in the Senate.  He says there seems to be resounding support for the measure.  He says it has bipartisan support and many of the concerns have been addressed through the process.
