Final Legislative coffee

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO AM) – The last legislative coffee for this session of the South Dakota legislature occurred Saturday morning.

Local legislators sat down with Sioux Falls residents to answer questions on SB 149, a bill concerning adoptions, a committee resolution concerning stricter vetting of refugees, and IM 22.

Senator Blake Curd was concerned about language in SB 149 that could discriminate, while Representative Greg Jamison would like to find more ways to make adoptions occur, not limit them.

On the vetting issue, some call Senate Committee Resolution 15 “anti-Muslim”, and that the current process works.  Others say the resolution calls for a stricter, better process.

Initiate measure 22 also came up, along with the budget deficit and Medicaid.
