SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.COM) For you newcomers to Sioux Falls, and thousands are coming every year, this brief lesson on whiteout conditions may be useful.
"We're talking not being able to see the house across the street, not being able to see the end of your driveway, and most importantly, not being able to see the car driving in front of you," illustrates National Weather Forecaster Kerry Hanko.
After weeks of balmy weather, Sioux Falls and much of the surrounding region is bracing for a big, blustery blizzard which may bring dangerous whiteout driving conditions.
"When you have the snow flying and you have the wind blowing it sideways, you really can't see where you are going. If you are traveling, you're gonna be at a standstill. You're not going to be able to move," says Hanko in a general warning to all people who may be on the road during the blizzard.
The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Watch from Thursday evening into Friday evening. Blustery wind will be driving the snow. Up to 12 inches is predicted with higher amounts possible in scattered locations.
