SIOUX FALLS, S.D. ( KELO AM) - Yankton lawyer Jason Ravnsborg announced his candidacy for South Dakota Attorney General in 2018.
Ravnsborg made the announcement Tuesday night at the end of the Hughes/Stanley County Lincoln Day Dinner in Pierre.
He ran for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in 2014
Ravnsborg told the crowd there are three things that he learned on the campaign trail that are important to possess as attorney general.
He says you have to be a solid lawyer adding that he's won jury trials and has won court trials in South Dakota and other states. He says you have to be a good advisor. "You have to advise the governor and different department heads."
Then, Ravnsborg says, the state attorney general has to be a leader and he says that's the most important quality.
Last year, Ravnsborg went from town to town across South Dakota explaining the ramifications of initiated measures to local groups.
Current Attorney General Marty Jackley is term limited. He's preparing a run for governor next year.
