SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Legislators are looking a double-edged sword in the state budget with falling sales tax revenue and potential cuts in federal funding.
Representative Jean Hunhoff of Yankton says any drop in money from Washington could be difficult for lawmakers in arriving at a balanced budget.
Hunhoff says if there are anymore fed cuts legislators would have to go back and do "some more realistic looking."
The Trump Administration is considering changing many federal programs to block grants, and total funds to the states could be lowered.
Vice Chair of the Appropriations Committee, Hunhoff says cuts in federal dollars could spell the end of some state programs.
Legislators return to Pierre Tuesday after a 4 day weekend. Thursday is crossover day in the legislature where a measure must clear a vote in at least one body or it will be retired for the session.
