SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Police say an accidental shooting last night left an eighteen year old woman in stable condition at a city hospital.

Officer Sam Clemens says a 17-year-old Sioux Falls boy had a .45 caliber handgun that accidentally fired in a house on South Duluth Avenue just before eleven last night.

Clemens says the round went across the room and hit the woman in the buttocks.  He says the woman suffered damage to her pelvis but the wound is not considered life threatening.  She underwent surgery and is remains hospitalized.

The boy fled and after a short pursuit he was arrested for aggravated assault, possession of marijuana, fleeing police and underage drinking.

Meanwhile...A 57 year old Sioux Falls man was arrested for simple assault yesterday after firing a gun into the air outside his home on East Lotta Street.

Clemens says Bill Ray Johnson is accused of threatening his wife during an argument.  For some reason, Johnson walked out the back door of his house a fired a .22 caliber handgun in the air. Police had already established a perimeter around the house and watched Johnson fire the round.

Clemens says Johnson did not threaten his wife with the handgun but did threaten her generally.

Johnson is also charged with firing a weapon in the city limits. His P-B-T was .28.

There were no injuries.
